1. This flow chart illustrates the workflow of preparations before the patient arrives. The trauma team assembles in the emergency department receiving the brief from the trauma team leader. The brief ends with the formulation of a plan of action or “Plan A” based on the information received from ambulance control.
2. This flow chart illustrates the workflow of the primary survey: before the handover between the hospital and the pre-hospital team takes place the team leader carries out a rapid assessment of the patient (5 second round) to rule out a peri-arrest situation, which would require deviation from the initial plan. Subsequently the team starts securing the vital functions in parallel rather than sequentially.
3. After conclusion of the primary survey an individual pathway has to be established for the patient. This pathway depends on the clinical condition of the patient and the resources available.
